Cyclists live 6 years longer than average
Study of Tour de France cyclists from 1947 shows greatly reduced mortality compared with population averages.  Not a new finding, but extends previous research.  Looked at cause of death and cancer and heart disease deaths notably down.  Pretty much what you would expect for very fit individuals.  But remember, not a random sample and other lifestyle factors may be invoved (e.g. better diet, less smpoking).
Short report here.
Full report is in European Heart Journal, Advance Access, published September 3, 2013. Mortality of French participants in the Tour de France (1947–2012) by Eloi Marijon and others.
Useful commentary by Abbas Zaidi and Sanjay Sharma, Department of Cardiovascular Sciences. St George’s University of London in same journal issue.
