Previous blog (January 2020) highlighted the marked fall in cycling fatalities in recent years. At the same time we are seeing an INCREASE in serious injuries. This is not happening in other modes (pedestrians, motorcyclists, car users). It has only been happening since about 2005. I have no explanation.
The report attched below gives the evidence in more detail and briefly discusses reasons. This is a very important issue. A "serious injury" is sometimes life-changing. It is important to work out why the trend has developed and find ways to reverse it. Please comment below so we can develop ideas to investigate the reasons and perhaps find a way to reduce the risk, already small, to the same levels as other transport modes.
